Steal with
pride has been a repeated motto in many corners of the software development
industry. It is a bit of a twist to “avoid reinventing the wheel”. Use what is
out there and make it fit your needs.
At Beer Fest Asia the music appeared to
be very much around that idea. Bands fully dedicated to the
oeuvre of legendary pop and rock formations: Abba, Beatles, Blues Brothers, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. Tribute bands galore at Beer Fest Singapore.
It was an
impulse buy. I saw some notification on Beer Fest a week or two ago and just
decided to buy tickets. That in itself was already interesting.
Tickets were
available at Sistic. So I went online reviewed the rates and decided to get the
4 day package “click next”. I got a view with 4 lines, one for each day and a
number 1 next to it.
After increasing the number for day one to 2, because I
wanted 2 tickets all others changed. All others but Saturday. Saturday had only
single seats??? available. I called and got nowhere. Saturday was full. A bit
disappointed, I figured "what if I act stupid ignore the system and book for one
person twice". Bingo! I will deal with the disappointment of not being able to
sit next to my lovely companion later, I thought
Arriving
at the entrance of Beer Fest I fully expected to be received by a host who
would take us to our assigned seating. But alas, no such thing. We had to sort
it out ourselves. We opted to ignore our “seat assignments” and hung our
armpits over the fence that separated, later it turned out not always
successfully, the crowd from the stage. From there we soaked in whatever
thievery the bands came up with.
From:
Local band Welcome to the Machine (Pink Floyd)
To Australian Blues Brothers and Soul Sisters (The obvious)
To also local Day Trippers (Beatles)
To ABBAFAB (equally obvious, equally Australian, equally familiar )
To the utterly amazing Lez Zeppelin.
To me
"utterly amazing" because, where all bands did a great job representing their chosen bands and the repertoire for that evening, the ladies of Lez were the epitome of steeling
with pride! Performing the songs with a high level of credibility of it being
Led, the all women band Lez added personality and creativity in the production
of sound as well as stage performance.
I felt
mostly treated and maybe a little bit vindicated by the final song. With of
course “stairway to heaven” being Led’s all time favorite tune for most people,
I was super thrilled by Lez’s rendition or almost recreation of my favorite
song “whole lot of love” where creativity in sound and stage drama came to a
height.
So from
here, from me, to proclaim with the Australian Soul Sisters, to the women of
Lez; r.e.s.p.e.c.t.
and my tribute to them:
