Fungkimunkees, how fungki is that?

After a visit at the show opening  of Nathalie Lauoe's "Made in Singapore " at the Artistry, which I thoroughly enjoyed, vibrant colors mixing local themes from now and back then. I meandered my way, again, back to Blu Jaz. I know it appears like there are no other places or gigs in Singapore than at Blu Jaz or Sultan Jazz Club but there will be others and more I promise. Tonight is just-again- one of those nights I did not want to miss. Don't know if you ever heard of Fungkimunkees??? If not?

The Fungkimunkees are

Zrina Bahtiarms- vocals

Teo Boon Chye - Alto sax

Pablo Tani - Baritone sax

Jacqueline Chia - trombone

Jacob Dalager - Trumpet

Fraser Porteous - Guitar
Edmund Wuu - Tenor sax

Duke Purisima - Bass (subbing for Sultan the regular bass player)

Arvin Paul - Drums

So, now you did hear of them!
Hearing of them however, is not enough for this band. You really have to come and listen to them. Great opportunity will be their May 10th EP release. Yes EP, just a couple of songs not a full album. Music is a financial struggle and recording is expensive!!
But if you come to the launch you will hear it all. All those songs that should have been on the album, and more. The massive funk sound of the eight piece band includes 3 saxophones, a trombone, and raspy trumpet, backed up by a solid rythm section from where we received the occasional cool solo.

This is by itself already a guaranty for awesome music, but is also fronted by the fungkiest of them all, the vocalist Zrina.

Eyes with energy of the LED headlights of a red hot Ferrari, pierce over the microphone, when she addresses the audience either singing or talking about this and that.
Clearly focused on entertainment, down to the black and white dress code and having a good time themselves, Zrina  and the other munkees are a bundle of fungkiness and fun! 10th of Ma? Only a few weeks away!!

You can leave your hat on!!!
